The University of Law, a leading independent legal education provider, today announces that it has appointed John Latham as its Provost and CEO.
Mr Latham joins from Laureate Education Inc, where he was Vice President for International Business Development. Laureate is the world’s leading network of private universities, spanning 30 countries, with in excess of 780,000 students.
While at Laureate Mr Latham led on a major, pan-company online initiative, on the establishment of new partnerships in the UK and internationally, and on the creation of Laureate’s first UK campus.
Prior to that he spent 13 years working at Russell Group universities – initially at the University of Manchester and then at the University of Liverpool. He was Liverpool’s first Chief Operating Officer and led on the establishment of Liverpool’s highly-successful online business and its Chinese university, XJTLU. He has served as a board member of the Quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education (QAA) and was a founding trustee of the North Liverpool City Academy, one of the UK’s top-performing state schools.
The appointment marks the latest stage in the evolution of The University of Law (ULaw) as a global leader in higher education. With eight centres across the UK, ULaw is the largest professional law school in the world. Formerly The College of Law, it was the first independent institution in the UK to be granted degree awarding powers and was awarded university title last November.Mr Latham will report directly to the Board and work closely with The University of Law’s President, Professor Nigel Savage. He will aim to deliver growth and innovation across the University’s UK centres and extend the University’s reach into select global markets.
