The University of Law chosen for exclusive partnership as Mishcon de Reya becomes early adopter of new SQE regime

The University of Law (ULaw) has been chosen by Mishcon de Reya as its exclusive partner to provide SQE training to the firm’s future trainees and solicitor apprentices.

As a result of this partnership, Mishcon de Reya’s future trainees will study ULaw’s SQE Master’s in Legal Practice and the Postgraduate Diploma from September 2022.

The exclusive SQE arrangement means that ULaw will train all Mishcon de Reya future trainees from September 2022 and deepens their existing relationship in which the University has provided exclusive SQE training and support to the firm’s cohort of solicitor apprentices since 2020.  By appointing ULaw as the exclusive provider of SQE training for the firm’s future trainees, Mishcon de Reya becomes an early adopter of the new SQE training framework.

Sharing Mishcon de Reya’s vision for the development of their future lawyers, ULaw’s SQE 1, SQE 2 and SQE Plus programmes seek to ensure both exam success and foster excellent technical skills alongside those commercial and personal skills and behaviours needed to equip junior lawyers for the changing future world of work.

Samantha Kakati, Partner and Training Principal at Mishcon de Reya, said: ”We were looking to work with a trainer who shared our values. We have always been driven by an entrepreneurial, tenacious and socially conscious spirit. We chose The University of Law as we felt they are best positioned to help us realise our ambitions in developing our people, nurturing talent and shaping the future of our firm. Together, we will unlock the potential of our future lawyers and champion equity, diversity, innovation and sustainability.”

Peter Crisp, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Law, said: “We are delighted to be working with the internationally renowned Mishcon de Reya, a firm that embraces diversity, respect for the individual and the expression of talent. Students are at the heart of all that we do and by joining forces with Mishcon de Reya, our support and training for both the firm’s future trainees and solicitor apprentices will help shape the next generation of the firm’s lawyers and ensure Mishcon de Reya’s clients continue to receive top-level legal advice and the highest quality of service”.

Mishcon de Reya’s future trainees will study ULaw’s focused SQE 1 & SQE 2 preparation courses as well as additional training on key practice areas, and innovation, technology and legal project management. Through this partnership with ULaw, Mishcon de Reya’s trainees will start their individual journeys to becoming technically excellent lawyers with the appropriate mindset, attitudes, values, skills and behaviours to contribute to the success of the firm.
