The University of Law (ULaw) has announced the launch of a new scholarship in partnership with world-renowned human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney and the Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ).

The Amal Clooney Scholarship for Human Rights Advocates is dedicated to supporting those who are passionate about supporting human rights worldwide and championing change. The winner of the scholarship will receive a fully funded place to study a postgraduate course with ULaw, the largest provider of legal education in the UK.

Applicants will be able to choose from a range of postgraduate law programmes at any of ULaw’s 16 UK campuses, with further options to study online or at ULaw’s campus in Hong Kong. As one of the longest-established providers of specialist legal education in the UK, ULaw has trained more lawyers in the UK than anyone else, with a vast number of high-profile figures among its alumni.

Applicants for the new scholarship will need to demonstrate a commitment to supporting and defending human rights. Applications must be made by Sunday 30 June 2024, and you can view an introduction from Amal Clooney to the scholarship here.

The Clooney Foundation for Justice works tirelessly to wage justice globally. The Foundation works in more than 40 countries, providing free legal support to those who have been victims of human rights violations around the world.

Commenting on the new scholarship with ULaw, Amal Clooney said: “It is an honour to join forces with The University of Law to empower the next generation of lawyers and advocates. I am thrilled that this scholarship will increase access to legal education in human rights and I look forward to seeing the incredible work of future recipients”.

Professor Andrea Nollent, Vice Chancellor and CEO at ULaw, added: “We are exceptionally proud to launch this new scholarship with Amal Clooney and the CFJ. Amal’s global efforts in the fight against injustice though the Clooney Foundation for Justice and providing free legal support to victims are an inspiration to all future lawyers. We take great pride in working with real change makers in the legal world and supporting a new generation of human rights advocates with this scholarship.”
