The University of Law shortlisted for HEA Global Teaching Excellence Award 2017

An international panel of judges has shortlisted The University of Law (ULaw) as one of 27 finalists for the Higher Education Academy’s (HEA) first Global Teaching Excellence Award (GTEA).

HEA GTEA Finalist

The award, organised in partnership with Times Higher Education magazine, is open to all providers of higher education and includes entries from around the world.

The GTEA will be awarded to an institution as a whole in recognition of its overall approach to teaching excellence. The overall winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on the evening of 4th September 2017.

Professor Andrea Nollent, Vice-Chancellor, and CEO at The University of Law said: “It’s fantastic news to get shortlisted for this award in its very first year. Given a large number of institutions that entered the award programme from all over the world, we are really pleased to be among this select international group.

“Having been given a Gold ranking in the UK’s Teaching Excellence Framework in June*, this further shows that ULaw is being consistently recognised for delivering outstanding teaching, learning, and outcomes for its students.”

Svava Bjarnason, chair of the GTEA judging panel and a former member of the World Bank Education Sector Board, said: “There were some fantastic entries for GTEA. Our panel was looking for robust evidence of excellence in three areas: leadership, teaching and student support.

“We found a great deal of outstanding practice in these submissions, and I believe this presents a superb opportunity for others to consider these lessons for their own institutional teaching strategies.”

“I congratulate all the finalists. And I’d also like to thank all the institutions that entered; there were some difficult decisions in selecting the final 27.”
