Course Details

MA Corporate Governance

This course has been developed to explore in detail the types of rules, policies and controls put in place to determine the behaviour of a corporation, and the intended outcome of those measures. It covers areas such as models of corporate governance, classification of systems and the impact of the global financial crisis. Taking a practical look at how to identify, set and uphold a corporate governance means that you will be able to enrich your understanding and skillset in this area, with the support of experienced practitioners who can demonstrate real-life examples to contextualise what you learn.

The award-linked module for this programme (Corporate Governance in Practice) will also cover the role of the company secretary, the board of directors, the relationship between the board and its shareholders, disclosure and accountability to give you an all-encompassing insight into the mechanics of corporate operation. The aim of this module is to put corporate governance in context, enabling you to learn how to apply complex theoretical concepts to real world client situations.

In addition to a general induction to the programme, there is a two-week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System. This is compulsory for students with a non-law background.

To help prepare you for your dissertation in Term 3, Terms 1 and 2 include a range of compulsory and further optional Research Methods Training sessions.

Modules are assessed by a three hour unseen written examination or 4,500 word coursework assignment.

Attendance at one of our UK campuses (or an approved overseas centre by prior arrangement) is required for all examinations, including for online study. 

The default campus location for online study is London.

The dissertation module will be assessed by submission of a thesis (15,000 words), and provides an opportunity for sustained, in-depth and intensive investigation into, and reflection upon, a specialist area of Corporate Governance.
