About our LLB Law (Top up) Online course

Our LLB Law (Top up) Online course at The University of Law develops the advanced academic and professional skills required to operate confidently within today’s evolving legal landscape. Through a focused selection of Level 6 modules, students deepen their ability to interpret and apply legal principles across advanced areas of law. In the second term, those who have not yet completed all required foundation subjects for progression to the Bar can choose options such as Land Law, EU Law and Equity and Trusts to meet the academic stage requirements set by the BSB (Bar Standards Board).

A distinctive feature of the programme is the bespoke ‘Law at ULaw’ module, designed to support your transition from Level 5 to honours-level study. It helps you adapt to the expectations of Level 6, strengthening your legal research, analytical reasoning and academic writing skills, while building confidence in applying the law independently.

With a clear focus on career progression, this programme blends legal study with opportunities to strengthen the practical competencies valued by employers. It is suited to those preparing for postgraduate legal training, completing the academic stage of legal education, or seeking broader career opportunities across the legal and commercial sectors.

Teaching and Assessment

How you'll learn

You’ll study three modules per semester, each worth 20 credits.

You’ll learn through a combination of online large group sessions, independent study and online workshops, receiving up to 26 hours of contact time per module.

Assessment

We use a variety of assessment methods designed to meet the practical nature of the course and individual module learning outcomes. Some of these will be exams, while others will require you to submit coursework, a portfolio or oral presentation. You'll also have the opportunity to practice with a mock assessment.

All assessments are delivered online although students on a student route visa may be required to sit examinations and live oral assessments on campus to comply with UKVI rules.

20 credit modules require around 200 hours of learning, spread across the term. To stay on top of things we recommend planning for up to seven hours of prep time per unit, including reading and assignments. The expected amount of study hours is 40 hours a week.

You’ll be allocated a dedicated Academic Coach to support you throughout your course. They’ll encourage you to become an independent learner and challenge you to achieve the best possible outcome during your studies.
