International Preparation Courses

We offer an exciting range of programmes for international students, which are designed to help and support you to achieve your goals.

This support includes:

  • Level 3 international foundation programmes (equivalent to 2 A levels) in Law and Business
  • EU law module to enable you to become eligible to study a postgraduate course in the UK if you haven’t studied EU law before.

Our tutors are highly qualified with experience in legal and business sectors and academic teaching.

Our courses have a career focus and we strive to develop your professional skills, as well as your academic and linguistic knowledge.

International Foundation Programmes

If you want to study one of our undergraduate degrees, but don’t meet the academic and language entry requirements – our International Foundation Programme (IFP) is for you.

Both our law and business foundation programmes run from September to June each year, split into six modules across two terms. They include two English language modules to help you build your general language skills into applied academic language. The programme also includes practical numeracy skills and research project modules that you can apply specifically to your subject area.

Our English tutors will work closely with you during the programme to make sure you are prepared for the linguistic demands of your degree. You will have 18 contact hours with your tutor each week to ensure you have plenty of guidance and individual feedback on your work.

If you’re on the law foundation programme, you will take part in two law modules to ensure you have a solid understanding of a range of concepts by the time you start your law degree, giving you a head start. This includes learning about the role of law in society, improving legal research and referencing skills, visiting a range of courts and studying civil and criminal cases.

If you’re on the business foundation programme, you will take part in two business modules to ensure you have a solid understanding of a range of concepts by the time you start your law degree, giving you a head start. This includes learning about company structures, globalisation, management theory, global financial markets and marketing principles. We focus on contemporary business cases, so that the theory you learn can be applied to real-life sector situations.

Email us to discuss your training needs.

The University of Law English Test (ULET)

ULET has been developed to evaluate your level of English for undergraduate or postgraduate study. It is accepted by our University as proof of your English level. It also meets the visa requirements for the UK Visa Immigration (UKVI). You can take all four components online and free of charge.

TOEFL iBT and LanguageCERT online testing

The university is continuing to operate as normal, where safe to do so, and taking all appropriate measures to support students for the September 2020 intake. In light of that we are accepting the following English tests:

TOEFL iBT home edition

TOEFL has released a secure English language test which can be taken from the comfort of your own home and accepted by the University of Law.

The test is available in all countries where there are TOEFL centres. You are able to register directly with TOEFL for the test. The test is available 24 hours a day and within 72 hours of applications. There is additional guidance which you’re able to obtain directly from TOEFL.

Online LanguageCERT

If you’re unable to take the TOEFL then we are able to accept the LanguageCert. Again, it is a secure method of testing which can be taken in the comfort of your own home whilst being invigilated by a real person who is there to help you (virtually).

IELTS Indicator

IELTS indicator is an online test which is available from the safety of your own home and scheduled once a week. The IELTS Indicator runs in the same format as a UKVI IELTS as it assesses your Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. This is the ideal option for applicants who have been preparing for the IELTS prior to centre closures.
