On successful completion of the LLM Legal Practice course, including passing all the University’s assessments in SQE1, SQE2 and SQE Plus, you’ll gain an internationally recognised master’s degree. Passing the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) centralised assessments is not necessary to gain our master’s award, although it is required to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. The course prepares students for these centralised assessments and creates spaces within the academic calendar for students to sit them.

Teaching and Assessment
How you'll learn
Each unit will follow our unique, adaptive and personalised learner journey, using our dynamic learning model: Prepare, Engage, Consolidate (PEC). This covers, all professional practice subjects and revision of all law subjects in the SRA’s assessment specification.
Assessment
Functioning Legal Knowledge (FLK1 and FLK2) is assessed internally through two online multiple-choice question exams, each with 90 single best answer questions. These mimic the SRA’s SQE1 assessments in syllabus and timing, with ethics assessed throughout.
SQE2 skills are assessed internally via written and oral tasks. Written skills are tested through a 48-hour takeaway coursework covering writing, drafting, legal research and case and matter analysis. Oral skills (advocacy and interviewing) are assessed through timed multiple-choice questions based on media clips.
SQE Plus modules include coursework and research reports across KPAs, Preparation for Practice, Business of Law and Professional Practice.
SQE1 and SQE2 are external, centralised assessments set by the SRA and delivered by Kaplan. Passing them is required to qualify as a solicitor, but not to achieve the master's degree.
For details on booking, payment, results and reasonable adjustments for your SQE assessments, please visit the SRA website.
Each unit follows The University of Law's unique Prepare, Engage and Consolidate (PEC) learning model and all resources will be accessible through the University’s virtual learning environment.
On average each unit will take approximately ten hours to complete.
Full-time students will generally have to study between four to six units per week.
Part-time students will generally have to study two units per week.
