After completing my LPC, I commenced my training contract with a law firm in Manchester City Centre and qualified into the Commercial Litigation Department. I dealt with a variety of different matters during my time as a litigator, including contractual disputes, property disputes and also enforcement issues, to name just a few. I remained with the same firm until I came to work for ULaw in 2015.

I have always had an interest in teaching, and had even considered a career as a teacher prior to deciding to pursue a career as a Solicitor. I have two siblings who are both teachers; therefore, maybe teaching runs in the blood! I was attracted to ULaw due to the positive comments I had heard from students who had previously passed through the university’s doors and for its focus on ensuring that students receive an education that focuses on the practise of the Law.

I currently teach Civil and Criminal Litigation on the LPC, Tort Law on the LLB and GDL, and Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence on the LPC. I chose to pursue a career as a tutor as I wanted to assist students in their careers and be a part of their development and academic growth. I receive an enormous amount of job satisfaction and pride in helping them achieve the best results possible.

Teaching Law and practicing Law are very different disciplines. I really enjoy the interaction that I have with my students and the opportunity to develop their understanding of what the Law is. It is also fantastic to again be able to consider a much wider section of the Law than I was able to do in practice.

The tutors at ULaw are previously practising Solicitors from a wide variety of backgrounds, therefore we can provide invaluable insight into practice in a number of areas. We are also focused on ensuring students not only obtain the necessary legal knowledge they need, but also develop the skills and commercial awareness which are necessary to begin life in practice. ULaw is in regular contact with law firms to gauge what they want and expect of their trainee Solicitors, therefore ensuring our students stand out from the crowd.

I am passionate about students having the knowledge and practical skills to be fantastic solicitors/Barristers or to excel in any other career that they decide to pursue. I want our students to enjoy their time whilst here and make the most of the supportive and focused learning environment.
