Without fear or favour: The importance of legitimacy within Policing

The Peelian Principles summarise the ideas that Sir Robert Peel developed in 1829 to define an ethical police force. The approach expressed in these principles is commonly known as Policing By Consent in the United Kingdom and other countries such as Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. However, this legitimacy is increasingly under threat through significant disclosure of institutionalised discrimination, serious criminality and corrupt behaviour. Join us to explore if this crisis is one that policing can recover from.
