Course Details

MSc Psychology (Top up) Online

Designed to build on your existing skills and knowledge, this course develops your psychological literacy through an independent research project in a defined area of Psychology, integrating theoretical and empirical components. You’ll receive structured support through the full research process, from selecting a topic and reviewing the literature to designing your study, analysing data and presenting your findings.

Recap sessions on research methods, literature reviews, referencing and report writing will strength key academic skills. Working closely with an academic supervisor, you will critically review existing literature, formulate your own research questions, and apply suitable research methods and analyses.

On completion, you’ll be equipped with a deeper understanding of key psychological theories, principles and concepts, as well as advanced research and analytical skills that can be applied in both academic and professional settings. The course consolidates your subject knowledge, critical thinking and professional competence, preparing you for future research or career development within Psychology.

Course Structure

Level 7: Dissertation module worth 60 credits.

This course includes ten one-hour asynchronous lectures, followed by weekly one-to-one online supervision sessions with an academic supervisor. The first four weeks (full-time), and first seven weeks (part-time), focus on taught content, after which you’ll move into independent study and the development of your written dissertation and oral presentation, with ongoing support from your supervisor throughout.

This course can be studied part-time over approx. 37 weeks, or full-time over approx. 19 weeks.

Assessment will consist of a 12,000 word written dissertation (80% weighting) and a 10 minute online live oral presentation (20%).
