Growing up, I often watched my father have many legal debates and discussions with his friends. His interest in politics and law sparked my own passion and inspired me to pursue a career as a solicitor.

I began my journey as a paralegal apprentice, and once I finished, I decided to go to university to build my knowledge and get more experience. After lots of research, I chose The University of Law, not just for its reputation but also for its focus on employability. I was attracted by the high employment rate after graduating and the ongoing support from the employability team during and after the course.

Throughout my time at the University, my Equity and Trusts lecturer Victoria, who is also the Programme and Student Lead, has been extremely supportive. She never fails to encourage and motivate me. Whenever we bump into each other on campus, we even have little catch ups. I admire the University’s proactive support and the constant reminders that help is always available. I know who to talk to about my future or where to turn if I face any issues. I feel genuinely cared for by all the staff.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been working as the University’s Diversity & Inclusion Advocate (DIA). I applied for the role in my first year and after completing an interview with the Widening Participation and Student Success Manager, Saba, I was offered the job. The position has helped me come out of my shell and develop my skills. It involves giving research-based recommendations and even taking part in panel reviews with module leaders, to talk about how the course resources can be made more diverse and inclusive. These experiences have been incredibly rewarding. I feel like I am contributing to the progress of the University and fellow students. I am proud to be a voice for change.

My advice for new students is don’t take first year for granted. Enjoy it to the fullest and take all the opportunities that you can get. You may face challenges but stay resilient - when in doubt, remember that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Also, don’t rush yourself or the process. Be passionate and enjoy the journey.

When I look into the future, I see myself working for an international law firm, breaking barriers and hopefully abroad in a place with lots of sun.
