Set for Success: Everything you need to know about the ULaw Alumni Network

As a ULaw student, the perks of studying with us don’t stop when you complete your course. Former ULaw students can join our global community of more than 97,000 alumni from over 155 countries. We sat down with Alumni Manager Maria Zenon to discover everything you need to know about the ULaw Alumni Network.

We are incredibly proud of our vibrant alumni community which continues to grow. It is important to us that we allow the community to shape the network and we regularly survey them to find out what benefits and services are of value to them.

An ongoing initiative is finding and reconnecting with former students, and it always feels particularly good when we re-engage with our lost alumni.

Given the University’s heritage, most of our alumni are law professionals, from trainees to partners and beyond, and because of this, they are incredibly busy people. We look to find ways of working with them that are sensitive to this and efficient. Our alumni are incredibly generous with their time and are willing to inspire students and each other through initiatives like mentoring and speaker opportunities as well as acting as ambassadors in our campaigns.

The most significant advantage of joining the Alumni Network is the networking opportunities. Through the Network, alumni have access to thousands of potential global business contacts. They can connect with each other, find mentors or approach alumni for individual support. The ULaw Alumni Network is one of the largest law and business alumni networks.

Members of the Network also have access to our flagship event, our ‘Evening with...’ alumni speaker series. This is a closed-door event for alumni who get an opportunity to have an audience with esteemed former students, like our recent ‘Evening with Lady Hale’, where more than 500 alumni attended from all over the globe.

As well as these perks, members of the Alumni Network can take advantage of our Alumni loyalty scheme for discounts on further education, professional development as well as offers at a host of external companies, including areas such as travel, removal services and photography, to name a few. As well as this, alumni can also continue to use our award-winning Employability Service.

Creating opportunities to meet alumni (virtually or in person) is of importance to them and in 2022 we will be organising a regular virtual drop-in session, allowing alumni to meet us and network with each other.

When travel opens and large groups start to meet, we are looking forward to empowering alumni to host their own regional alumni receptions and reunions. In 2022 we will be organising a regular virtual drop-in to offer opportunities for our global alumni to meet in real-time.

We are privileged to have so many supporters and advocates, from Lady Hale and Stephanie Boyce, the current President of The Law Society of England and Wales, to newly graduating students who are just embarking on their career journeys. Through the Alumni Network, we hope that our alumni feel supported and get the help they need, whether this is access to job vacancies, events and skills webinars, mentoring and individual support from other alumni, or opportunities to collaborate and create valuable business connections.

We encourage all alumni from recent graduates to those who studied with us years ago to join the Network so they can use the opportunity to support each other and our current students, something so many find hugely rewarding.
