In Conversation With Karen Nokes

Join us for an insightful session with Dr Karen Nokes, Lecturer at the UCL Faculty of Laws. Karen joined UCL in 2021 with a wealth of experience from both legal practice and regulation. Admitted as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 1992, she began her career in private practice before spending almost two decades with the Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority. During this time, she held a number of senior leadership positions, including Head of Practice Standards and Director of Supervision, developing extensive expertise in legal regulation, professional standards and practitioner engagement. Karen’s research is interdisciplinary, drawing on law, management and psychology to explore professional decision making and behaviour. Her interests include access to justice, legal and behavioural ethics, and the psychological processes that influence judgment and decision making in professional settings. She is currently a Co-Investigator on the ESRC-funded project Professional Pathologies, Causal Pathways and the Post Office Miscarriages of Justice, working alongside leading researchers from UCL and the University of Exeter. Holding a PhD in Business and Management from the University of Manchester, an LLB from Cardiff University and a BSc in Psychology from the Open University, Karen brings a unique perspective that combines academic research with extensive real-world experience.
