The University of Law and Oxford Brookes University announce exclusive collaboration

The University of Law (ULaw) has announced an innovation to its programmes to deliver specialised postgraduate legal training courses at Oxford Brookes University’s Law School.

From September 2025, ULaw's LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) will be available as a full-time in-person programme at the Oxford Brookes campus. This course provides a practical pathway to qualification as a solicitor under the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) new SQE framework. Going beyond the core SRA assessments, ULaw’s LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) equips students with advanced legal knowledge, practical skills and commercial awareness essential for a successful legal career.

Plans are also in place to expand the arrangement to include ULaw’s Bar Practice Course (BPC) from September 2026, providing aspiring barristers with access to high quality training.

Oxford Brookes LLB and GDL students can benefit from ULaw’s longstanding reputation in delivering market leading legal education, its extensive industry links, and a strong emphasis on employability. This on campus arrangement will complement Oxford Brookes University’s Law School’s existing legal education offering, enhancing opportunities for students pursuing a career in law.

Dr Sara Hannam, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University, said: "We are committed to working with training providers that bring real value to students and expand access to high-quality professional education. This collaboration with The University of Law will enrich our postgraduate legal training offer and open up exciting new pathways into the legal profession."

Chara Bakalis, Head of the Oxford Brookes Law School and a Reader in Law said: "This is a strategically significant arrangement for Oxford Brookes. It strengthens our position as a forward-looking Law School that offers students a clear route to professional success, while maintaining our strong commitment to academic excellence and social justice."

Professor Peter Crisp, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Law, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Oxford Brookes University, which marks ULaw’s 11th collaboration with a university law school. We continue to prove highly successful in providing accessible, industry leading education nationwide.  We look forward to working closely with Oxford Brookes in building what promises to be a very exciting extension to its law school offering”.
