The University of Law has awarded Honorary Doctorates to Barbara Mills KC and Tim Ramsey MBE in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the legal profession, education and equality.
Barbara Mills KC is Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales and joint head of chambers at 4PB. She has been honoured for her trailblazing legal career and dedication to equality at the Bar. Specialising in complex family law and international children’s cases. She has forged an outstanding legal career and has long been a champion of justice and inclusion. An arbitrator and mediator, Barbara sits as a deputy High Court judge and has been a recorder on the Southeastern Circuit for over 10 years. Barbara is also a governing bencher at Inner Temple.
On accepting the award, Barbara commented:
“I am honoured and deeply humbled to accept this honorary Doctorate in Law, in recognition of my contributions to equality and inclusion at the Bar. This distinction reflects the work of those who have supported my journey as well as the many people across the Bar who have worked tirelessly to advance race equality and the great work done at the Bar Council. I dedicate this achievement to advancing justice, upholding the rule of law, and strengthening legal practice in England and Wales.”
Tim Ramsey MBE, Partner at Schillings and founder of the award-winning charity Just Like Us, was also recognised for his influence of public policy, behavioural science and LGBTQ+ education. A former senior adviser at the Behavioural Insights Team, Tim led COVID-19 response strategies for the UK Cabinet Office and the US National Governors Association. His commitment to social impact earned him an MBE in 2021 for services to education and equality.
Commenting on his Honorary Doctorate, Tim said:
“I’m honoured to receive this award from The University of Law in recognition of my work in the UK and the MENA region. I look forward to celebrating the Class of 2025’s graduation and sharing with them the benefits of applying an entrepreneurial mindset to their careers - I’m encouraging them to be patient, look for opportunities and take risks.”
