What is your favourite memory from your time with us?
My time at The University of Law studying the LPC MSc course from January to October 2021 was shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many of my classes taking place online. Looking back, one of my favourite memories is the shared determination among students to keep learning and supporting one another despite the challenges of lockdown. Graduating in 2022, having completed the course in 2021, felt incredibly special.
What has been the best development in your field since you qualified?
Since qualifying as a Mental Health Solicitor, I have been encouraged by the growing openness around mental health and the continued push for more compassionate, rights-based approaches within the field. Seeing these conversations become more mainstream has been a meaningful and positive shift.
And the worst....?
One of the biggest ongoing challenges remains ensuring that services and support systems are adequately resourced to meet growing demand, particularly for vulnerable individuals in crisis.
If you could bring in one new piece of legislation in your sector, what would it be and why?
I would introduce legislation focused on increasing and regularly reviewing legal aid rates for solicitors. Adequate funding is essential to sustaining the profession and ensuring that vulnerable individuals continue to have access to specialist legal advice and representation.
What advice would you give to someone starting the course you studied?
Stay organised, remain adaptable, and take care of your wellbeing throughout the course. Legal studies can be intense, but maintaining balance and building a strong support network are just as important as academic success.
How did your course prepare you for your career?
The course challenged me to think critically, communicate effectively, and manage competing demands, all skills that have proven invaluable in my legal career. Studying during the pandemic also strengthened my ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Tell us something people may be surprised to know about you…
Beyond my legal career, I serve as a pastor at my church. Ministry and law may seem worlds apart, but both are rooted in the same desire to serve and advocate for others.
