The course will enable you to:

  • Develop your professional capacity as reflective practicioners, enabling you to self-assess your skills and performance within your professional context.
  • Gain a critical understanding of the current issues within the Higher Education sector.

  • Develop an understanding of leadership and management within Higher Education, and associated opportunities for career progression.

You’ll be provided with all learning materials, including guidance for each module, ebook core texts, podcasts, presentations, articles to read, a discussion board and a wiki.

  • The taught route is part-time online over one year. (Year 1 below.)
  • The micro-credential route is part-time online up to 5 years. (Split as per below.)

Two compulsory modules:

  • Higher Education in Context (30 credits)
  • Professional Practice in Higher Education (30 credits)

  • Regulations, Governance and Legislation
  • Widening Participation Agendas/Strategies in UK Higher Education
  • Managing Self and Personal Skills

Both taught modules are assessed through two-part assessments:

  • Module 1 - 3,000 word written submission (60% weighting) and an oral presentation of 2,000 words (40% weighting).
  • Module 2 - 3,000 word written submission (60% weighting) and a poster presentation of 2,000 words (40% weighting).

Micro-credentials modules are assessed through the following:

Module 1, 2 and 3 - 1,000 word written submission (60% weighting) and a 15 minute oral presentation of 650 words (40% weighting).

Module 4, 5 and 6 - 1,000 word written submission (60% weighting) and a poster presentation of 650 words (40% weighting).

Taught route:

The course consists of two 30 credit modules running sequencially across one academic year.

Micro-credential route:

You can select sessions from a roll-on roll-off programme where repeated debates, recordings and asynchronous activities occur with 10 credit micro-credentials.
