Open days

Students and graduates interested in forging a career in law can get advice on taking the next step at a series of open days being held at The College of Law’s eight nationwide centres this spring and summer.

The events will give would-be lawyers an insight into the College’s courses and the legal profession. They can speak to tutors and current students about the various study programmes, the different areas of law in which to practise and how to make the right career choice.

Information will be available about the College’s post-graduate training courses; the Graduate Diploma in Law, which gives non-law graduates an entry route into the legal profession, the LL.M Legal Practice Course, the next step towards a career as a solicitor, and the Bar Professional Training Course for aspiring barristers, as well as the College’s new two-year undergraduate LL.B law degree, which launched last year.

The LL.B is the first of its kind, grounded on rigorous practice-based learning designed to prepare students for the modern world of law. It focuses on developing their professional legal skills and boosting their employment prospects, with workshops to help students exploit the career opportunities inherent in the fast-changing legal services market.

Open day visitors can sample the College’s unique blend of traditional and cutting-edge teaching methods, which combines e-learning tools such as online interactive tutorials with face-to-face tuition. They can also find out about its award-winning Pro Bono work.

In addition the College’s London centres are running a ‘Solicitor Insight Day’ and a ‘Barrister Insight Day’ giving aspiring lawyers the opportunity to network with practising legal professionals, gain insight into their day-to-day work through Q and A sessions and take part in employability workshops on how to maximise their chances of success. The Barrister Insight Day will also include cross-examination skills sessions demonstrating how the practical elements of the Bar course are taught at the College.

Sarah Hutchinson, Board Member for Business Development at The College of Law, said: “Our open days offer a great opportunity for those interested in a career in law to meet staff, students and practising lawyers and see for themselves the first class tuition, impressive facilities and unrivalled careers advice available at all of the College centres.”

The College of Law is the leading provider of professional legal education and training in Europe and has eight centres across the UK. In November it was awarded university title and will be rebranding as The University of Law early this year.
