Best inside look: How I Built This

How I Built This is an American podcast focused on interviewing the creatives behind some of the most innovative business ideas, leading to companies such as Instagram, Vice, Airbnb and Kickstarter.

From product refinement to selling billion-dollar companies, this podcast covers it all. One of our favourites is an early episode with Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger. Their reasoning behind the app’s success provides listeners with a great insight into discovering a new market that wasn’t being catered for, and creating a product to meet their demands.

Host Guy Raz’s laid back interview style rubs off on his guests and makes for informative and enjoyable listening.

Best for answers: Freakonomics Radio

Award-winning author and journalist Stephen Dubner and economist Steven Levitt first teamed up in 2005 to write a book that answered questions such as which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool and how much do parents really matter? This book went on to sell over 4 million copies worldwide.

Freakonomics Radio continues its journey to answer questions, both big and small. Their back catalogue also includes the series ‘The Secret Life of CEOs’, which features interviews with business giants such as Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg. As well as this series, episodes such as ‘Why We Choke Under Pressure (and How Not To)’ and ‘Who Decides How Much a Life is Worth?’ are stuffed full of interesting facts and knowledge that can help you in a business environment. Freakonomics Radio is as intriguing as it is informative.

Best Ted Talks: Ted Business

You may be aware of Ted Talks, but did you know they had a business specific podcast? They come packed full of thought-provoking information, in ten to twenty minute episodes.

Diversity in the workplace, inclusion, standing up for yourself, innovation, social media and many more topics are included in this varied but always passionate podcast. If you’re looking for an episode to start with, try ‘How to get serious about diversity and inclusions in the workplace’ by Janet Stovall.
