MEET YOUR FACULTY AT LEEDS
Matt completed a degree in International Business and Modern Languages and started his working life in Paris for a commercial real estate advisory firm. He then decided to pursue a career as a lawyer and embarked on the GDL and LPC at ULaw in Chester. Matt started his training contract with DLA Piper LLP and went on to qualify and practise Corporate Restructuring. Matt joined the University in 2013 and has taught across many courses, specialising in corporate and commercial subjects.
Andrea has a LLB from the University of Liverpool and is the Academic Manager at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied for the Law Society Finals at ULaw. She trained and qualified as a solicitor in York and worked in family and child care law, as well as qualifing as a family mediator and worked for the York Family Mediation Service. Andrea teaches Criminal Law on the GDL and LLB and Introduction to Professional Practice, Family Law and Private Client on the LPC.
LPC Programme & Student Lead
Feona is the LPC Programme & Student Lead at ULaw's Leeds Campus. After graduating with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Leicester, she studied for the Solicitors’ Final Examination at ULaw. She trained and qualified as a solicitor in Newcastle upon Tyne, where she worked in private practice specialising in Commercial Property before moving into education. Feona teaches Real Estate, Advanced Real Estate and Family Law on the LPC and Law in Action on the LLB.
BPTC Programme & Student Lead
Beverley obtained her LLB in Law and Criminology from Keele University before completing her Bar Vocational Course. Beverley was Called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 2008 and completed her pupillage at KBW Chambers in Leeds, where she specialised in personal injury work until 2016 when she joined ULaw Leeds. Beverley is the BPTC Programme Lead at the Leeds Campus and is Head of the BPTC Civil Team. Beverley also teaches LLB Tort, LPC Personal Injury and PSC.
GDL Programme & Student Lead
Following her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at Newcastle University, Natalie undertook the GDL and LPC at ULaw. Natalie trained at Addleshaw Goddard, qualifying into the construction litigation team. After taking a career break to work as a lecturer, she returned to legal practice, specialising in litigation in financial services disputes. Natalie teaches Dispute Resolution and Commercial Dispute Resolution on the LPC, as well as EU law on the LLB.
LLB Programme & Student Lead
Gayle is a Senior Tutor, the LLB Programme and Student Experience Lead, and the Safeguarding Officer at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied for the LPC at ULaw. She practiced as a Commercial Dispute Resolution solicitor at Wake Smith and Addleshaw Goddard, until she moved into education. Gayle teaches Tort on both the GDL and the LLB. She has taught Litigation and Commercial Dispute Resolution on the LPC and currently teaches the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence elective.
Acting GDL/MA Law Programme & Student Lead
Niall is the Acting GDL and MA Law Programme & Student Lead and Head of the Criminal Team for the BPTC, who teaches on the LLB and LPC at the Leeds Campus. Niall studied law at The University of Liverpool, the Bar Vocational Course at Manchester Metropolitan University, was called to the Bar, and practiced as a barrister before joining ULaw. Niall is a regular speaker at formal training for Death Row legal interns for the UK charity Amicus ALJ.
ULTRA Project Director
Patrick is a Tutor and a Project Director for Legal Tech and Innovation at ULaw's Leeds Campus. Patrick graduated with an LLB, went on to study an MA in Law and Economics at the University of Bologna and the University of Gent, and completed the LPC at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice. He has worked as a Duty Solicitor at Police Stations/ Magistrates Courts and developed a Military Law practice assisting those charged with criminal offences. Patrick teaches Criminal Law, Public Law, Intellectual Property and Common Law Method.
Associate Professor & Tutor
Sean is a Associate Professor and tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. He has a BA (Hons) in History and studied for the CPE and Law Society Finals at ULaw. Sean teaches Criminal Law on the LLB, Ethics and Professional Legal Practice and Criminal Law on the GDL and Dispute Resolution and Advanced Criminal Practice on the LPC. Sean is a consultant with McCormicks Solicitors and a visiting lecturer at the University of Hong Kong.
Gerry Biles is an Associate Professor at the Leeds Campus. After graduating with an LLB from the University of Hull, Gerry undertook his vocational studies at ULaw's Guildford Campus. He currently teaches Public Law on the Graduate Diploma in Law and LLB courses, across a range of modules on the LPC and on the Professional Skills Course. He was also involved in the University’s collaboration with the Open University as a course writer and an examiner.
Gemma graduated with an LLB from the University of Newcastle and is now an Associate Professor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied the Law Society Finals at ULaw's Chester Campus. Gemma teaches Business Law and Practice, Introduction to Professional Practice, Commercial Law and Practice and Public Companies Law and Practice on the LPCe; Contract law on the GDL as well as on the undergraduate law degree and Practical Contract Law on the Professional Skills Course.
Emma Benoit has an LLB (Hons) in Law and French from the University of Birmingham and studied for the Law Society Finals at ULaw. She trained and qualified as a solicitor at Hogan Lovells and specialised in Property. She currently combines a part-time consultant role with her role with The University of Law teaching Real Estate, and Professional Legal Practice on the LPC and Equity and Trusts on the GDL and LLB modules.
Gary has a BA (Hons) from the University of York and is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. Gary studied for the Common Professional Examination and Law Society Finals at ULaw. Gary qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and worked in high street practice for 9 years. Gary moved into legal education in 2003 and teaches Public Law on both the GDL and the LLB. He also teaches Dispute Resolution and Advanced Criminal Practice on the LPC.
Jane is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She has a BA (Hons) in Law from the University of Oxford and an LLM from the University of Cambridge. Jane teaches EU Law on the GDL, Business Law, Commercial Law and Intellectual Property on the LPC, as well as Legal Essentials and EU law on the LLB. She is also the ULaw EU LLB Module Lead and the Disability Support Officer at Leeds, taking a keen interest in student welfare issues.
Kiri has a BA (Hons) in Law and Politics from the University of Hull and is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied for the Common Professional Examination at ULaw in London and qualified as a solicitor at Ince & Co. Kiri teaches Contract on the GDL and LLB, Banking and Debt Finance on the LPC and Law and Business on the LPC Masters module. Kiri also teaches a number of Professional Skills Courses, including Financial and Business Skills.
Lynn graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Lancaster and is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. Lynn qualified as a solicitor in 1987 and worked in private practice and at the Crown Prosecution Service. She attained Higher Rights of Audience and worked as an advocate in a range of courts before moving into education. Lynn teaches Criminal Law on the LLB and GDL, as well as Dispute Resolution and Family Law on the LPC.
Phyllida has a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages from the University of Bristol and is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied for the Common Professional Examination and LPC at ULaw in Guildford. Phyllida teaches Equity and Trusts on the GDL and on the Undergraduate LLB modules. She also teaches Business, Intellectual Property and Private Client law on the LPC. Phyllida is a member of the Law Society and a member of the Society of Legal Scholars.
Cerys worked as an archaeologist for a number of years. Having decided to pursue an interest in law, she undertook the CPE at Middlesex University and the LPC at ULaw. She trained and qualified as a solicitor at a practice where she worked in Real Estate Litigation until she moved into education. Cerys has a PGCHE from Huddersfield University and teaches Land Law on the LLB and GDL, as well as Real Estate and Commercial Dispute Resolution on the LPC.
Jessica is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. After working for The Times, Jessica studied for the CPE through ULaw and qualified as a solicitor at Lee & Priestley and Beachcrofts, becoming a lecturer at the ULaw in 2005. Jessica returns to practice on a regular basis in order to maintain a practical edge to the classroom. Jessica teaches Business Law and Employment Law on the LPC, various modules on the Undergraduate LLB Course, and Employment Practice on the BPTC.
Tina Hayes is a Senior Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. After graduating with a BA in Law from Cambridge University, she studied for the Solicitors’ Final Examination at the University of Law and then trained as a solicitor at Penningtons Solicitors. Tina teaches Equity on the Graduate Diploma in Law, Real Estate and Private Client law on the Legal Practice Course and Wills and Succession on the LLB.
Patrick Hubble is a Senior Tutor at the Leeds Campus. Patrick has a degree in Philosophy from King’s College, London. He studied for the Common Professional Examination and Law Society Finals at Leicester Polytechnic. He trained as a solicitor and practised in corporate law at Evershed until he joined ULaw. Patrick teaches Contract and Tort Law on the GDL, and Mergers and Acquisitions, Debt Finance and Business Law on the LPC.
Tutor & Campus Librarian
Dr Chris Walker is a Tutor and Campus Librarian at Leeds. He holds a PhD in Knowledge Management and is a chartered librarian and knowledge manager who has worked in both the public and private sectors. Chris is a published academic, specialising in Information Seeking Behaviours using Grounded Theory and Action Research methods. He is also an experienced University lecturer and Masters dissertation supervisor. Chris also teaches on the MSc Law and Business as well as various business modules on the undergraduate courses.
Kayleigh Humphreys is a Tutor at the Leeds Campus. Kayleigh graduated with an LLB from the University of Newcastle and studied the LPC at ULaw. She trained and qualified as a solicitor at Pinsent Masons LLP. On the LLB and GDL programmes Kayleigh teaches Law of Organisations and on the LPC she teaches the core module of Business Law & Practice and the elective module Commercial Law & Practice.
Sarah is a law tutor at the Leeds Campus. She has an LLB from the University of Liverpool and studied on the LPC at ULaw. Sarah trained and qualified as a solicitor at a firm in Bolton before moving to a law firm in Leeds. During her time in practice Sarah specialised in family law and private client work. Sarah teaches the family law module on the LLB and on the Introduction to Professional Practice (IPP) and the Private Client modules on the LPC.
Catherine is a Visiting Lecturer at the Leeds Campus. She graduated with a Law and Business Studies degree from Warwick University. Catherine was called to the Bar in 2007 and is member of Lincoln’s Inn and a Barrister, practising from Park Square Barristers, Leeds. She joined ULaw in 2017, tutoring across the BPTC, LPC and LLB programmes. Catherine works for the Bar Standards Board as an External Examiner for the BPTC course.
Jane Kershaw is a Tutor at ULaw's Leeds Campus. She studied English and History in Newcastle before completing a law conversion course and the LPC in Manchester. She trained and qualified as a solicitor specialising in commercial property, with particular expertise in retail and leisure work. Jane rejoined ULaw in 2018, after completing a PGCE and she currently teaches the core module of Real Estate and the elective module of Advanced Real Estate on the LPC, as well as Land Law on the GDL and MA courses.
