The University of Law opens the doors to its new Nottingham campus

11 July 2019

One of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education and training in the UK, The University of Law (ULaw), has officially opened its new Nottingham campus, which is the ninth UK campus for the University.

The opening of the campus, at One Royal Standard Place, featured talks from The University of Law’s Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Professor Andrea Nollent, and Nottingham campus Dean, Andy Matthews, on July 3. The event was attended by many local law firms and businesses, and gave attendees the opportunity to tour the new campus facilities along with meeting the ULaw faculty.

Located in the heart of the city, adjacent to Nottingham Castle and the arena, the new campus sits within the immediate vicinity of local law firms and businesses. This will allow ULaw to achieve one of its core objectives; building strong local connections throughout the city and creating programmes that provide students with practical skills and experience.

Heading up the new campus as Dean is former Gateley Plc Managing Partner in the East Midlands, Andy Matthews, who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from his career in the legal sector, as well as his experience on how to grow a business.

Students enrolling at the Nottingham campus will have access to a wide range of courses, including the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and MA Law. Additionally, the LLB courses available will provide opportunities for students to build their professional network and source career opportunities via ULaw’s strong connections with law firms locally and nationally.

The law courses available at the Nottingham campus are:
•    GDL full-time and part-time
•    MA Law full-time and part-time
•    LPC full-time and part-time (day, evening and weekend)
•    LLB Law two, three and four years (full-time)

The University’s Business School, which was launched in 2016 to help equip students with real world business skills, will also offer a range of programmes at the new campus for both undergraduates and postgraduates, beginning in 2020.

To celebrate the first year in the city, ULaw is also launching the ‘Nottingham Postgraduate Award’, available to all postgraduate students starting in September. The award will be for £1,000 applied against the chosen course fee. It will be available for all postgraduate students starting in September either on a full or part-time basis.

Professor Andrea Nollent, Vice-Chancellor and CEO at The University of Law, commented: “We’re thrilled to open the doors to our ninth UK campus, in Nottingham. We’ve been working closely with local businesses and firms to develop relationships we believe are at the core of what we offer to our students. We’re also excited to see unique courses, covering topics outside of traditional law and business, launching at our new campus to help our students to prepare for real world legal and business careers.”

Nottingham Campus Dean, Andy Matthews, added: “It was an honour to launch the new campus in Nottingham last week and it’s exciting to see ULaw have a presence in the East Midlands. It was great to be joined by nearby law firms and businesses to celebrate the opening of our doors. I’m looking forward to guiding ULaw in what is set to be an exciting future in Nottingham.”
