The University of Law appoints former Gateley Plc Managing Partner in the East Midlands as Dean of new Nottingham campus

The University of Law (ULaw), the UK’s largest provider of specialist legal education, has announced the appointment of Andy Matthews as Dean for its new Nottingham campus.

Formerly holding the role of Managing Partner of Gateley Plc in the East Midlands, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and business acumen from across the legal sector. Having spent his entire working life in the East Midlands, Andy is a well-known and highly respected figure in the region; a quality that will support ULaw’s ambition to grow strong links between the new Nottingham campus and nearby firms and businesses.

The launch of the Nottingham campus marks the ninth campus for ULaw in the UK. Located at One Royal Standard Place, it will officially open for teaching and welcome its first students in September 2019.

Mr Matthews said: “I am delighted to have joined ULaw. The teaching, training and record on future employability at ULaw is exceptional. The opening in Nottingham is very good news for the East Midlands as a whole and I am looking forward to welcoming our first cohort of students this September. I, and everyone working at the campus, will be working extremely hard to make sure it becomes a vital and successful part of the region’s professional and business life.“

Professor Andrea Nollent, Vice Chancellor and CEO at The University of Law, said: “Our vision for the new campus in Nottingham is to establish a legal and tech hub, with strong links into local firms and businesses, which we can harness to design courses that will benefit both our students and employers. Beyond his expertise and extensive knowledge of the legal industry, we saw in Andy a real passion and commitment for the region and a wealth of valuable industry contacts. We’re confident that Andy’s skillset and experience will support our ambition to become a leading provider of legal education in the Nottingham area.”
