A day in the life...

I did my training contract in a small firm in Harrow in Crime, Family and Conveyancing.  There are benefits of working for a smaller firm.  Firstly there is nowhere to hide!  Secondly the exposure to different types of cases is immense.  I was dealing with cases of criminal damage for multi handed drugs cases.

The beauty of criminal defence work is that no two days are the same.  One day could be spent preparing cases for Court followed by a phone call from the police station to represent a suspect at the police station.  Prioritising your work and having a good team is a must in any area of law.

Best moments

Working with clients of all ages and backgrounds is what I found to be most interesting in my role.  Now that I am teaching, although I miss this, it is equally nice to meet students with such differing hopes and aspirations.

Working hard on cases and getting good results makes being in practice all the more worthwhile.  I find that whether you teach or practise in law, the learning never stops.

Advice to students

There are so many different practice areas of law, I would advise any student to undertake work experience in as many areas that you are interested in so that you can decide what you prefer to do.  The last thing that I would want for any student is for them to end up in an area of law which is not their preference.

I would also advise students to attend Networking events.  Networking brings about opportunities which the world is full of so take advantage…..
